Is a ceramic coating worth it? When it pays off, and when it doesn't

A ceramic coating is not always a must. We help you decide when the investment truly pays off and when polishing or wax is enough.

When a ceramic coating is truly worth it

A coating pays off most if you plan to keep the car for at least a few years and care about its look and resale value. Over that time, easier upkeep and protection from the elements outweigh the upfront cost.

It is especially worth it on dark and new cars: on dark paint micro-scratches and water spots show far more, and protecting a new car from day one makes the most sense.

  • You will keep the car longer than 2–3 years
  • Dark or metallic colour
  • New or freshly polished car
  • You want less effort when washing

When you can do without it

If you are about to sell the car quickly, or it sits outside in harsh conditions with no regular care, an expensive coating does not always pay off. In that case a quality polish with short-term protection, or wax, may be enough.

A coating is also not a do-it-and-forget solution — to last its full warranty, the car still needs to be washed correctly.

Coating or polishing — the difference

Polishing restores gloss and removes defects but does not protect for long. A ceramic coating protects and simplifies care but does not fix existing scratches. The best result comes from combining them: polish first, then coat a corrected surface.

After a free inspection we tell you honestly whether a coating really pays off in your case, or whether polishing is enough.
